-The social history collections include ceramics (locally produced and domestic wares; glassware (mainly domestic and bottles from the late 19th century including mineral water bottles from local firms); furniture and furnishings mainly displayed in room settings; printing and writing material (presses, fonts and printed materials); a modest collection of toys, dolls and playthings dating from the early 19th century; domestic bygones; photographic equipment such as cameras and dark room equipment; crafts, trades and professions relating to the local area; wartime ephemera including material relating to air raid precautions; other local ephemera such as material relating to the local radio and television industry, theatres, clubs and societies and civic matters; and material relating to Southend-on Sea's importance as a holiday resort and seaside town, such as guidebooks, holiday paraphernalia and souvenirs.;The ceramics collection includes an important group of Leigh and Southend wares.;A modest collection, including coins of the realm, tokens and military and civilian medals.;Large collection of postcards, prints, glass plates and other negatives, mainly relating to the Borough of Southend-on Sea and south east Essex. The collections also include cameras and dark room equipment.;A very large and important collection of radios, televisions and recorders, with special emphasis on the products of E K Cole (EKCO).
