Description: | -Examples of local geology, including specimens of fossil shells from the internationally important Naze cliffs, fossil sharks' teeth found on the beach and a selection of large mammal bones found nearby.;Small collection of Mesolithic flint tools and weapons found on the Naze beach.;The maritime collections include items relating to wildfowling and fishing, and to local lifeboat history, HM Coastguard, Customs and Waterguard, and Trinity House and boatbuilding.;Social history material includes items relating to the development of Walton as a seaside resort including chinaware from former hotels, items relating to local trades and industries.;Photographs and postcards relating to the history and development of Walton and its people, and to the history of the Walton lifeboats and their crews from 1885.;Archive material includes numerouse maps, charts and plans, particulary a hand written chart of the Naze by Fadden (1793) showing the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean from Norway to Gibraltar. Also the record books of the Lifeboat Station up until 1977. Paper ephemera includes posters, pamphlets, newspaper cuttings, guidebooks, sales particulars etc. Many of the documents were originally owned by Walton record Office or Frinton and Walton UDC.
