Description: | The numismatic collection has 15,000 items covering Iron Age to present especially local usage and from archaeological sites. Collection established in 1824 includes Norwich and Thetford mint coins and an outstanding collection of hoards of the Iron Age, all four centuries of Roman Britain, Saxon, Norman and English Civil War periods. The Morley St Peter hoard represents the most extensive group of portrait coins of Edward the Elder. Evidence of coin production in the Iron Age is held in the form of clay moulds from Thetford and Saham Toney. There are 2,700 mainly local trade tokens of the 17th, 18th and 19th century, 300 jettons and 170 coin weights are included.
