Description: The gloving archive at the Museum of South Somerset is considered to be the most comprehensive in the country and includes the personal collection and archive of Clive Ponsonby-Fane of Brympton-D'Evercy. The collection reflects rural life in south Somerset including the local history of the area and the trades and industries which flourished there. Leather and glove manufacturing; flax and hemp production; rope and sailcloth making; engineering and the development of Petter-Westland; dairying and the St Ivel Dairies; stone working and newspaper printing are all represented. As well as a selection of domestic social history items, there is a small number of dolls, toys and games dating from the 18th to 20th centuries. Subjects: Industry & commerce
