Description: | Locomotives
The railway has a very large collection of industrial steam locomotives which are restored to very high standards to haul trains. There are also some diesel locomotives, used mainly for shunting and works trains, including ex-BR locos (classes 04 and 14) which can be used to haul passenger trains and both a DMU and an experimental railbus.

Carriages
A sizeable fleet of ex-BR Mk I's, the railway also has a number of pre-BR coaches, some of which are in service on regular occasion providing a link back to the past and the "golden era" of railway travel. These are very popular and the fleet is increasing.

LNER Restaurant Car 43654 1935 BR number 321002 - from departmental service - converted from Third Open at Embsay. Operating in teak livery for Cream Teas.
ECJS Dining Car 189 1894 Oldest Dining Car in existence - rescued from use as a pig shed - being restored to teak finish for use on the railway. Part of the Stately Trains fleet.
GER Saloon 14 1889 ON LOAN TO NORTH NORFOLK RAILWAY FOR 2002 Superbly restored. Part of the Stately Trains fleet.
GER Family Saloon 37 1897 ON LOAN TO NORTH NORFOLK RAILWAY FOR 2002 Superbly restored - unique - reputed to have been used by a princess. Part of the Stately Trains fleet.
GNoSR Saloon 34 1896 Arrived 2001 and has entered traffic following a thorough overhaul. Some work remains to be done on the seats. This will be operating on the vintage trains in 2002. Part of the Stately Trains fleet.
LYR Director's Saloon 1 1906 Body has been restored at Embsay. Interior work continues. This will be operating on the vintage trains in 2002. Part of the Stately Trains fleet.

Vans
The railway's fleet of wagons is large, and comprises many different types and ages, inluding box vans, open wagons, hoppers and tank wagons. More and more of these are being restored for photo charters and use as originally intended. This is especially the case with the engineers wagons.
LMS Tool Van About to be rebuilt. Used for many years as the P-Way departments tool van.

Lambton Mess Van From the Lambton Railway - requires some rebuilding work. Currently on the end of the coal dock.

7-Plank ex NCB Wheldale. Of NE design - used to have hopper doors. Used at Wheldale colliery for loco coal. Requires a lot of attention.
