Juni 1941 Dr. R. Ley. Verantwortlich Otto Geiger, Berlin, Pl. 210a Verlag der Deutschen Arbeitsfront GmbH., Berlin - Druckort Berlin - D 6327 [Performance contest by German businesses 1941/42. Comrades at work! In my appeal for this year's performance contest as also for the earlier ones, I have pointed out particularly the importance of good business organization, of the most profitable and careful use of the human labour force and hence of the necessity for the maximum improvement in performance. The performance contest by German businesses has always consciously favoured the highest increase in production of the German national economy by the most advantageous exploitation of all business factors. Therefore the Reich Marshal of the Great German Reich, fellow party member Hermann Göring, also approves the idea of the performance contest as a valuable aid in fulfilling the tasks of war. During wartime it is first and foremost a matter of high production of goods important to the war effort. But it is decisive that businesses manage to build and equip work plants for the smallest outlay. In these months of the decisive effort, the aspects of the beauty of work, etc. cannot be regarded to the same extent as was a matter of course in times of peace. Nor can the soldier at the front today pick out his place in the battle, he fights wherever he is assigned, irrespective of the external conditions. Therefore as soldiers of labour we must all try to make the best of the conditions into which we are put, and strive within them for the optimum possible performance. It goes without saying that in the given context everything possible will be done for every member of the business community. But it is not appropriate today to make demands that run counter to the above-named goals. My appeal points in the direction of those goals and this year's performance contest marches in the same direction. The awards to be made at the close of this performance contest year are to be based on the above aspects. In this I am also falling in with the wishes of our Reich Marshal, and we are all helping the Führer.Berlin, 25 June 1941. Dr. R. Ley. Person responsible, Otto Geiger, Berlin, Pl. 210a.
