[National Tuberculosis Day organised by the Central Committee Providing Assistance to Ex-Servicemen Suffering from Tuberculosis. With the help and under the patronage of the National Relief Committee. The Great War has finally revealed to France the terrible danger Tuberculosis, a social scourge, represents for it. Struck down by 'T.B.' thousands of our finest combatants have had to be withdrawn from the front lines: they too have fallen for their Country. It is for them that we hold out our hand. Much longer-lasting than the most dreadful of wounds, the disease that strikes at our soldiers' lungs turns them into war-wounded too, but war-wounded who can recover if we want them to. Tuberculosis can be cured: To save the men wounded by Tuberculosis, the care that is given to them first by the Army's Health Services and then by the Ministry for the Interior's sanatoriums, set up on the initiative of Parliament, cannot do enough. The Central Committee and the departmental Committees providing Assistance To Ex-Servicemen suffering from Tuberculosis take responsibility for this special category of war victims at the point when they return home; they include a great many fathers of families. We take them on, with their wives and children who must be safeguarded from contagion. Help us save invalided tuberculosis sufferers. Help us safeguard their families from contagion and so protect yourselves. Help us ensure a home and provide work for invalided 'tuberculosis survivors'. Too debilitated during their illness to look after their own needs, deprived of a job suited to their strength when they have recovered, they expect help and protection from our Committees.Making them healthy means reconstituting a 'pool of strength' for the future of the Country, it means saving our race. To preserve so many lives useful to the Country, only money is lacking.Give, all you who love your brothers at arms; Give, all you who have suffered in your own families from the cruel evils of this war that our enemies have waged relentlessly; Give too all you who fear contagion, for your children, for those who are dear to you: we will safeguard you all the better from tuberculosis as you will have provided us with more plentiful resources to isolate, care for and cure our unfortunate protégés suffering from T.B.; And finally all you fortunate people who have not yet suffered, who have not yet had to weep. Give! All you who believe in immortal France, Give! Assistance to ex-servicemen, survivors of tuberculosis, is provided throughout French territory by departmental Relief Committees and a central Committee with its head office in Paris, the main mission of which is to support the departmental Committees in their task and provide them with new resources.
