Description: | St. Alban died in 209, he was one of the earliest Christian Martyrs in Latin Europe. A shrine was erected here which was replaced by a monastic church by the end of the 4th century. Such a development of a site from a simple Roman shrine to a major medieval church is unique in England. | Subjects: | Towers Religious buildings Countryside Cathedrals Print Priories Windows Structural elements (buildings) Abbeys Church architecture Monastic buildings Roman Empire Hospital Buildings (Medieval) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Author/Creator: Langley, W | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=3096... | Go to resource |
