GROUPE PARLEMENTAIRE DES DÉPARTEMENTS ENVAHIS [a list of members follows, including Léon Bourgeois.] Paris. - Imprimerie MARCEL PICARD, 140, rue de Faubourg-Saint-Martin (Télephones 132-74 et 139-5) [French Republic. French National Aid Day. Organized by the 'National Aid' Committee and by the Parliamentary Group of the invaded departments for Sunday and Monday 23 and 24 May. The 'National Aid' Committee was formed at the beginning of the War to relieve the sufferings it foresaw, but which were to exceed all anticipation. In this Committee, all creeds and opinions are represented; the existence of France being placed in peril, we have united closely in our common love of our country to fulfil our common duty towards it. That duty makes necessary the appeal we are addressing to you, in conjunction with the Representatives of the invaded departments. After demonstrating your generous solidarity towards our Belgian brothers and our soldiers at front, you will show no less generosity to relieve the sufferings of our French populations: The sufferings of women, children and old people. The sufferings of widows and orphans. The sufferings of French people invasion has driven from their homes. The sufferings of those who have remained in their devastated lands. The sufferings of those hostages transported in thousands through the barbarity of our enemies to Germany and returned to us exhausted and half dead. Everyone is suffering in this war, but not all to the same extent. Those who are suffering least have a debt of national solidarity towards those who are suffering most: children without a father, families with no home, all victims of this war that our enemies have imposed on us and made dreadful. Each of us must pay that sacred debt so that we may have an equal right to the great emotion and sublime joy the Victory of France and Civilisation will give us.
