Pareils à des demons, les Allemands se ruent à l'assaut de la tranchée française qu'ils inondent d'une avalanche de bombes. Dix des nôtres, surpris, sont couchés à terre, morts et blessés pêle-mêle, le moment est critique! Tout à coup, un des hommes, étendu, une blessure au front, le visage ruisselant de sang, se relève, empoigne un sac de grenades et lance les projectiles sur l'ennemi en criant: Debout les Morts! A son appel trois autres blessés se redressent dans un suprême effort, saisissent un fusil, épaulent péniblement et commencement un feu rapide et meurtrier. C'est un combat épique. Les Allemands terrorisés par cette contre-attaque héroïque qui les décime, lchent pied et s'enfuient en désordre, laissant de nombreux morts sur la terrain. La position est sauvée. At his call, three other wounded men get back up, making a supreme effort, seize a gun, raise it with difficulty to their shoulders and start to fire rapidly with deadly effect. It is an epic combat. The Germans, terrorised by this heroic counter-attack that is decimating them, give ground and flee in disarray, leaving many dead on the ground. The situation had been saved.
