Description: | Acquisition: gift from Sir John English Dolben, 1818 Description: Half length, facing viewer, head turned slightly to right; grey hair; ruddy complexion; white neck-cloth and frilled shirt; dark brown coat, yellow waistcoat, partly open; plain dark background. After the portrait by John Opie, c.1790. 'Sir John English Dolben, Baronet, having expressed to the Vice Chancellor his wish to present to the University an original Portrait of Nathaniel Lord Crewe, and a Copy of a Portrait of his Father, the late Sir William; - who so long represented the University in Parliament Resolved, That the Vice Chancellor be requested to communicate to him the Thanks of this Board, and to assure him that such a mark of his regard for the University will be highly acceptable.'
