Description: | Bronze standing figure of Jim Driscoll wearing boxing boots, shorts and Lonsdale belt. Legs slightly apart, hands held behind back. Figure is set on square bronze base bearing four reliefs; two with inscriptions, one with image of Nazareth House and the other showing Driscoll in action in the ring. Additional Information: Jim Driscoll (1880-1925) was born in Cardiff and acquired his skills in a travelling boxing booth. He was the undefeated Welsh, British and European featherweight champion, winning him the title 'peerless' in the American press. He famously turned down a world championship fight to keep his commitment to a charity match in aid of Nazareth House Orphanage in Cardiff. 300,000 people came to his funeral, the highest attended of any held in Wales.
