Description: | Granite slab with inscription on polished front. Low relief portrait head of D.J. Williams above inscription. Stone came from a field at Caersegan Farm, St. Nicholas. At one time the stone was a gate post. Weight in region of half a ton. Additional Information: D.J. Williams (1885-1970), writer, was born at Rhydcymerau, Carmarthenshire. After a short spell as a collier in the Rhondda he continued his education at Carmarthen, University College of Wales, Aberystwyth and at Jesus College, Oxford. He took degrees in English and was eventually appointed to the Grammar School in Fishguard where he taught English up to his retirement in 1945. He remained in Fishguard until his death in 1970. He was among the founders of Plaid Cymru and spent time in Wormwood Scrubs as a consequence of the symbolic burning of the bombing school in 1936, with Saunders Lewis and Lewis Valentine.
