Description: | Bronze statue on stone pedestal with rusticated base and two bronze bas-reliefs. The statue depicts a standing male figure with weight on right leg. The right arm is extended downwards with the hand holding a rolled document. The left leg is inclined slightly forward and the left arm is flexed with the hand grasping a sword. He is in military dress with a cloak over the left shoulder. On the ground slightly to rear of statue on his left-hand side is a bicorn military cap with plume. On the ground to rear of statue are two large books, one with binding outwards is labelled 'DISPATCHES'. Bronze bas-relief panel on south-west side of pedestal depicts two officers on horseback raising their hats, with foot soldiers in the background, presumably alluding to the Peninsular War.
