Description: | Two large carved pieces of stone set in water in circular brick surround. Additional Information: Taken from the leaflet: 'Powys Sculpture Trail in the Landscape of Writers' Thomas Jeffrey Llewellyn Pritchard (1790-1862) the 'first Welsh novelist' actor and book seller was born in Builth Wells, Powys. In 1828 he produced the first of many versions of his best known book 'The Adventures and Vagaries of Twm Sion Cati' descriptive of life in Wales. The hero of the book is a legendary Robin Hood figure based on the early life of Thomas Jones (1560-1609) landowner and poet of Tregaron. For some unknown reason, in the 1840's, Pritchard returned to life as a strolling player until he lost his nose in a fencing accident, thereafter living a life of destitution. He died in Swansea in January 1862. | Subjects: | Sculpture | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Sculptor: Futura, Hideo | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=6777... | Go to resource |
