Description: | Two tall wooden sculptures set on square shallow concrete plinth with carvings depicting the story of Taliesin. Additional Information: Taken from leaflet on Llanfair Caereinion: 'Ceridwen bore a son Avagddu, who was so ugly he was unlikely ever to be accepted, so she decided to mix a potion to give him great wisdom. Gwion Bach, a son of Gwreang of Llanfair Caereinion, was set the task of stirring the cauldron for a year and a day, aided by Morda, a blind man. But three drops of this potion landed on Gwion's finger, which he immediately put to his mouth to soothe the heat. This suddenly made him aware of Ceridwen's plan, and he fled, pursued by Ceridwen. In order to avoid capture, Gwion changed into a hare - but Ceridwen changed into a greyhound. When he became a fish, she became an otter, when he became a bird, she became a hawk. When finally he became a grain of wheat, she became a hen, and ate him. After nine months she bore a son so handsome she could not kill him. He was called Taliesin. | Subjects: | Sculpture | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Sculptor: Millward, David | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=6781... | Go to resource |
