Description: | Black metal column supporting a polished metal flaming sword encircling the helmet of a Roundhead soldier. Set into the concrete around base of column are representations of artefacts associated with the Civil War including a cavalry boot. It surmounts a small tapered base made of stone bricks. Additional Information: Sculpture recalls Duckenfield a local individual who played an important part in the Civil War. Robert Duckenfield (1619-1689), was a local landowner and Puritan, who became a commander in the Parliamentary army during the Civil War. He was raised to the rank of colonel in 1642. Duckenfield took part in fighting in Cheshire and, later, he helped to secure the Isle of Man. After the Restoration he was tried for his involvement in the court martial of the Earl of Derby but acquitted.
