Description: | All the sculpture is on the north façade. At the centre, at attic level: a three figure group with attributes, comprising a standing, semi-naked female representing Progress (with bronze torch, laurel branch and cornucopia), flanked by two seated, semi-naked females representing Science (globe and compass) and Art (books). Across façade, above second storey: six standing, semi-naked female figures with attributes representing (from east): Shipbuilding (model boat); Mathematical Science (dividers and open book); sculpture (figurine); Painting (palette and brush); Engineering (crown wheel and pulley); and Textile Industry (distaff).
