Description: | Above the ground floor is a Glasgow coat of arms surmounted by a half-size figure of St Mungo. This is within a pediment on which lie two naked putti. Behind each putto stands a semi-naked female figure on a pedestal (Autumn, left and Spring, right). Above and between them is a Zodiac clock within an arch on which sit one female and one male, back to back. These represent Commerce and Industry, but are based on Michelangelo's Night and Day on the Medici tomb in Florence. In the space below the clock is Old Father Time. To either side of the coat of arms (beyond the double windows) is a crouching draped female figure (Dawn and Dusk) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Sculptor: Rhind, William Birnie Architect: Burnet, Son & Campbell | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=7839... | Go to resource |
