Description: | This is a fine example of the work of Francesco Zuccarelli, an Italian painter who worked in England throughout the latter part of his career. In the mid-eighteenth century such idealised Italianate views were popular with English collectors and Italian artists came to capitalise on this interest. In London, Zuccarelli produced paintings directly for the market, an unusual practice at the time; he gained both financial and social success. This painting shows Zuccarelli's interest in earlier forms of landscape painting, and his rejection of the kind of views produced by contemporaries like Canaletto and Marco Ricci. | Subjects: | horse landscape; figure; animal (cow dog); trade and industry | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Zuccarelli, Franco (Italian painter, 1702-1788) Æ | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8318... | Go to resource |
