Description: | This is a copy after the Adoration of the Magi by Sandro Botticelli in the National Gallery, London, painted in the 1470s. The original was partly a collaboration with Fillipino Lippi, who was Botticelli's pupil at the time. Notable characters include a dwarf on the left-hand side of the painting; an attendant to one of the kings paying homage to the Virgin and child on the right. He has been included as a feature of Renaissance courts of the period, which the artist obviously felt was equally appropriate to the retinue of a Magi. | Subjects: | religion (adoration of the Magi) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Image, Selwyn (British painter, illustrator, 1849-1930) Æ After Botticelli, Sandro (Italian painter and draftsman, born 1444 or 1445, died 1510) | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8320... | Go to resource |
