Description: | Signed: yes Description: Paintings on alchemical themes were popular subject matter, including sixteenth-century works by Pieter Brueghel the Elder. In this painting, an alchemist in his laboratory is using a magnifying glass to compare his recipe to that found in a book. The painting is by a follower of David Teniers the Younger. Teniers painted a number of works of this subject matter and, as in this work, chose to include a large globe on the Alchemist's desk and apparatus used for his experiments. | Subjects: | figure; interior; still life; everyday life | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Teniers, David, II (Flemish painter, 1610-1690) Æ Attributed to school of Previously attributed to Teniers, David, II (Flemish painter, 1610-1690) | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8327... | Go to resource |
