Description: | This work is possibly a portrait of a Pope Leo XII (1760-1829) as the cherubs to the right are holding the symbols of the Pope, his tiara and key. Under this work is likely to be a painting of St Ignatius de Loyola as restoration has shown the Trinity and the Virgin in the clouds. The figure of St Ignatius has a moustache. Under him is a figure of a Turk in a turban, which also suggests that this is St Ignatius, identical with a ceiling painting by Andrea Pozzi in the Church of St Ignatius in Rome. This work is a copy by an Italian painter of the eighteenth or nineteenth-century. | Subjects: | figure; religion (Apotheosis of an Ecclesiastic); landscape; interior | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Pozzi, Andrea (Italian painter, 1778-after 1831) Æ Attributed to after Previously attributed to Italian School | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8332... | Go to resource |
