Description: | This Spanish painting is a fluently executed depiction of the Adoration of the Magi. To the right, the Virgin sits with the naked child on her lap. The infant rests his hand in a gesture of blessing on the head of the most elderly of the magi, who kneels. Joseph and the ox remain in the shadows behind the Virgin and child. The remaining magi with their entourage form a dense crowd at the centre and left of the composition. The star and a pair of putti are set over the holy group. Classical buildings form a backdrop to the left. | Subjects: | angel); animal (horse camel St Joseph holy family religion (adoration of the magi ox); buildings and gardens Virgin and Child | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Spanish School Æ Previously attributed to Valdés Leal, Juan de (Spanish painter, printmaker, sculptor, architect, 1622-1690) | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8351... | Go to resource |
