Description: | Signed: yes Description: The French landscape specialist Corot painted several scenes of windmills in Picardy and Montmartre. The water present in this painting suggests however that it was painted on his trip to Holland around 1854. Corot was an enthusiastic summer traveller, using the sketches he made on these trips to work up more finished pieces during the winter. By the 1850s, Corot had combined these two ways of painting to produce finished works in a sketchy style. This style and his interest in the effects of light were important for the younger generation of artists such as Berthe Morisot and Claude Monet. | Subjects: | landscape | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Corot, Jean-Baptiste-Camille (French painter and draftsman, 1796-1875) Æ | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8360... | Go to resource |
