Description: | The sitter is believed to be Sir Thomas Gresham (1519-79), the financial agent of the English Crown in the Netherlands. It has been attributed to the North Netherlandish artist, Antonis Mor, who worked as a court painter to Philip II of Spain. Whilst there are some similarities with other portraits of Gresham attributed to Mor, it does not bear the distinctive features or the same clarity suggesting it may be by another Flemish artist working in the same circles. The full ruff is also unusual, and not evident in other portraits of Gresham, suggesting it may not be of him. | Subjects: | Sir Thomas 1519-79 portrait (Gresham possibly) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Mor, Antonis (North Netherlandish painter, born 1512-1516, died ca. 1576) Æ Attributed to | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8360... | Go to resource |
