Description: | Signed: yes Description: A landscape painter born at Caen, Lépine was a pupil of Camille Corot and made his debut at the Salon in 1859. He admired the work of Johan Barthold Jongkind, who influenced him in his choice of ships as subject matter. Lépine participated in the first infamous exhibition of Impressionist paintings in 1874. Although his work can be said to anticipate the Impressionists' interest in light effects, his brushwork, as well as his depiction of light effects, is much more delicate and subtle. The majority of his work was painted on or around the River Seine, which may also be the location of this scene. | Subjects: | landscape (river); place (River Seine?) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Lépine, Stanislas (French painter, 1835-1892) Æ | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8371... | Go to resource |
