Description: | Signed: yes Description: Théophile Emile Achille de Bock was a Dutch painter and engraver. He was born at The Hague, 1851 and died in Haarlem, 1904. A pupil of Van Borseleu and de Weisenbruck, he later came under the influence of the Barbizon School and his friend Jakob Maris. He painted primarily landscapes, mostly views of forests and wooded countryside. During a stay in Paris and Barbizon he was influenced by the style of Corot; other artists he admired greatly were Millet and Rousseau (he copied a painting by the later). His oil paintings are generally characterised by broad brushstrokes and restrained colour. | Subjects: | landscape (woodland) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Bock, Théophile de (Dutch painter and printmaker, 1851-1904) Æ | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8372... | Go to resource |
