Description: | This portrait could be a commercial copy of van Somer's bust-length James I, wearing the Lesser George of the Garter (of which EU 603 is a much better copy). The costume seems to be derived from another three-quarter-length portrait of James I also by Van Somer. James VI, son of Mary Queen of Scots and Lord Darnley, was born in 1566 and crowned king of Scotland the following year on the deposition of Mary. | Subjects: | portrait (King James VI and I) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Somer, Paulus van, I (Flemish painter and printmaker, 1576-1621) Æ After | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8386... | Go to resource |
