Description: | Singing songs of chivalry and courtly love, troubadours were particularly popular in the Middle Ages in Europe, often travelling great distances, and being relied upon for the transmission of both news, and trade. The troubadour in this work, probably painted in the eighteenth century, has been portrayed in the manner of the seventeenth-century Dutch painter Adriaen Brouwer, an artist who was famous for his paintings of low life genre scenes. | Subjects: | everyday life; figure; animal (dog; cat); buildings and gardens | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Dutch School Æ Attributed to | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8408... | Go to resource |
