Description: | This work depicts the finding of Moses, an Israelite baby placed in a basket by his mother and floated down the River Nile, in order to escape the death sentence placed on new born Israelites by the Egyptian Pharoah. Moses however, was discovered by the Pharoah's daughter, depicted here, who raised him as her own and he became a Prince of Egypt. A pupil of Luca Giordano, to whom this work was previously attributed, Paolo de' Matteis became an internationally renowned artist in his own right, working in Rome, Naples and Paris. | Subjects: | religion (Moses); figure; interior | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Matteis, Paolo de` (Italian painter, 1662-1728) Æ Attributed to Previously attributed to Giordano, Luca (Italian painter, 1634-1705, active in Italy and Spain) | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8416... | Go to resource |
