Description: | Depicting three masted merchant ships with a cutter rigged square sail in the right hand foreground, this Dutch painting is thought to be by a follower of the seventeenth-century marine artist Simon de Vlieger. Though he studied under Hendrick Cornelisz. Vroom, to whom this work has been previously attributed, de Vleiger also adapted the monochrome palette of Jan Porcellis. | Subjects: | marine | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Vlieger, Simon de (Dutch painter, printmaker, and draftsman, 1601-1653) Æ Attributed to manner of Previously attributed to after Backhuysen, Ludolf, I (Dutch painter, calligrapher, and printmaker, 1630-1708) Previously attributed to Vroom, Hendrick Cornelisz.
