Description: | This large oil sketch of the ascension of Christ into heaven was once owned by the British painter, Sir James Thornhill. This has helped to fuel the debate and confusion over its attribution for the last 90 years, although it is now believed to by the Italian painter, Sebastiano Ricci. Ricci is well known for his decorative paintings, which have been recognised as bridging the gap between the Baroque and Rococo. | Subjects: | religion ( Christ); figure | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Ricci, Sebastiano (Italian painter and draftsman, 1659-1734) Æ Attributed to Previously attributed to after Murillo, Bartolomea-Esteban (Spanish painter and draftsman, 1618-1682) Previously attributed to Bellucci, Antonio (Italian painter, 1654-1726) Previously attributed to Thornhill, James (English painter, 1675-1734) | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8420... | Go to resource |
