Description: | This work is a copy of Godfried's Schalcken's original in the National Museum of Warsaw. Schalcken was a Dordrecht genre and portrait painter of the seventeenth century. He was a pupil both of Samuel van Hoogstraten and Gerrit Dou, and their influence, as well as that of Frans van Mieris can be clearly seen in his work. He is particularly well known for the dramatic lighting effects he created in his paintings, of which the original of the Shipley work, is an excellent example. | Subjects: | interior; figure; everyday life | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Schalcken, Godfried (Dutch painter, 1643-1706) Æ After Previously attributed to German School | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8424... | Go to resource |
