Description: | Mytens painted this elegant portrait of James, second Marquis of Hamilton, in his role as Master of the Horse to James I in 1622. The fine detailing of the costume, soft leather boots and portmanteau mark the sitter as a wealthy and fashionable man. At the time Mytens was a highly sought after portraitist and he became court painter to Charles I in 1625. Mytens also painted the Marquis's son, and this picture remains with the family. | Subjects: | Second Marquis of Hamilton) portrait (James | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Mytens, Daniel, I (Dutch painter, ca.1590-before 1648) Æ | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8436... | Go to resource |
