Description: | The French painter Narcisse Chaillou was well known for his picturesque genre scenes, portraits and landscapes. This is a typical example showing the then common sceen of a travelling knifegrinder sharpening a knife on a foot-treadled grinding-stone watched by onlookers. Chaillou was a pupil of Hebert, Bonnat and Corot, and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français and at the Salon de Paris. | Subjects: | everyday life; figure | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Chaillou, Narcisse (French painter, born 1837, active 1870-1896) Æ Attributed to | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8448... | Go to resource |
