Description: | Signed: yes Description: A portrait of Arthur Farre (1811-1887), Fellow of the Royal Society at the age of only 28, professor of obstetric medicine at King's college and physician-accoucheur to King's College Hospital, from 1841-63. Shown next to a brass microscope, he was founder and president of the Royal Microscopical Society. It is likely that the portrait was painted in 1862 when the artist is known to have been in London.
