Description: | Signed: yes Description: Lavieille, an accomplished pupil and intimate friend of Corot, worked closely with his friend Chintreuil, painting landscapes and pastoral scenes of the countryside around Paris. He first exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1844 and won medals in 1849, 1864 and 1870. He was noted for the subtle arrangement of colours and the nostalgic feelings his works evoked, reminiscent of Corot's work from his lyrical' landscape years of the 1850s. This is well demonstrated in this quiet landscape, where the artist applies free sketchy brushwork showing his sensitivity to nature's resonances. Examples of the work of Lavieille can be seen at museums in Rouen, Marseille, Troyes, Dijon, Chantilly and Lille. | Subjects: | landscape | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Lavieille, Eugène Antoine Samuel (French painter, 1820-1889) Æ | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8516... | Go to resource |
