Description: | Signed: yes Description: This landscape executed by Daubigny, a precursor of the Impressionists and a member of the Barbizon group of artists, resembles in composition the small panels he produced between 1852 and 1857 in the hamlet of Optevoz, a small village near Crémieu. The cottages and their setting are almost identical to two of his panels, both entitled Le Moulin de Gobelle à Optevoz, one in a private collection and the other in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. This period, in his mid-career, signifies his break with Romanticism and a definition of his mature subject, expressed in lyrical waterside views. Daubigny's soft brushwork and delicate vision are well represented in this small panel, a size he preferred for open-air work. | Subjects: | landscape | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Daubigny, Charles François (French landscapist, 1817-1878) Æ | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8517... | Go to resource |
