Description: | This half-length portrait of a young woman is attributed to an imitator of the sixteenth-century Italian painter Bronzino who was acclaimed for his portraiture which was often analytical and detailed. The identity of the sitter is unknown, although she is thought to be a Spanish princess. She holds a fan in her right hand and is adorned with pearl earrings and necklace. The low neckline of the heavily embroidered, black and white dress is close in style to mid-nineteenth-century fashion, so too are the woman's facial type and pose. These characteristics suggest that the portrait was possibly painted in the nineteenth century. | Subjects: | figure | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Bronzino, Agnolo (Italian painter and draftsman, 1503-1572) Æ Attributed to manner of Previously attributed to Bronzino, Agnolo (Italian painter and draftsman, 1503-1572) | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8525... | Go to resource |
