Description: | This portrait of Amalia van Solms (1601-75) is paired with a portrait of her husband, Prince Frederick Henrik of Orange. Both paintings are after the Dutch artist Michiel Jansz. van Miereveld (1567-1641), who found patronage at both the Orange and Bohemian courts in The Hague. The portrait, set within a painted oval, was a typical motif of the artist, and commonly used in Dutch portraiture. The autograph version of this portrait was painted soon after the sitter's marriage in 1625, and she is shown wearing the pearls, brooch and hairpin given to her by her husband as a wedding present. | Subjects: | portrait (Amalia van Solms) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Miereveld, Michiel Jansz. van (Dutch painter, 1567-1641) Æ Attributed to after Previously attributed to school of Somer, Paulus van, I (Flemish painter and printmaker, 1576-1621) | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8571... | Go to resource |
