Description: | Henrietta Maria of Bourbon (1609-69) was the youngest daughter of Henri IV of France and Marie de Medici. She became queen-consort of Great Britain when she married Charles I in 1626. This portrait is derived from a painting by Pierre Mignard of Madame de Maintenon, the morganatic second wife of Louis XIV (private collection). The painter has changed the design to show the sitter wearing an old-fashioned ruff and standing in front of a column upon a decorative pedestal. | Subjects: | portrait (Queen Henrietta Maria) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Mignard, Pierre, I (French painter and portraitist, 1612-1695) Æ Attributed to manner of Previously attributed to British School | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8574... | Go to resource |
