Description: | A three-quarter length portrait of James I of England and VI of Scotland holding the Garter badge in his right hand. This is a version of the full-length portraits by Adam de Colone in Hatfield House and Newbattle Abbey for which de Colone was paid £60.00 in 1623. De Colone's version was, itself, derived from the Paul van Somer type of 1618 in Holyrood House, dating from when James I was seeking a Spanish match. Another three-quarter length version is in Culzean Castle. | Subjects: | portrait (King James I and VI) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Colone, Adam de (Scottish painter, active ca. 1622-1628) Æ Attributed to after Previously attributed to after Somer, Paulus van, I (Flemish painter and printmaker, 1576-1621) | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8576... | Go to resource |
