Description: | An archetypal eighteenth-century scholar and antiquarian, the Rev. John Cullum was a Fellow of both the Society of Antiquaries and the Royal Society. In 1785, the year of his death, he published The History and Antiquities of Hawsted, in the County of Suffolk. This is one of several family portraits bequeathed to the borough of St Edmundsbury by the last surviving member of the Cullum family, George Gery Milner-Gibson Cullum, on his death in 1921.
