Description: | A genre scene depicting a group of peasants sitting in a dark room, probably a tavern. The men are depicted smoking. A girl sitting central to the group whose skirt rides up faces the viewer. A dog sits at her feet. The delicate nature of the woman's face are characteristic of Domenicus van Tol (about 1635 - 1669), a minor painter working in Leiden in the middle of the seventeenth century.
