Description: | Jacopo Palma, called Palma il Giovane, was possibly a pupil of Titian, and was the grand nephew of Palma Vecchio. He was influenced by Roman Mannerism, having spent some years there in the 1560s and '70s, and also by the works of the late Titian and Tintoretto. This painting of Saint Mark shows the impact of central Italian Mannerism, and Tintoretto. It is one of a series of the four Evangelists bought by Agnews in Milan in the 1920s, formerly in the Brunati collection in Milan. The painting of St John is now part of the York City Art Gallery collection. | Subjects: | religion (St Mark); figure; townscape; buildings and gardens | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Palma, Jacopo, il giovane (Italian painter, ca. 1548 - 1628) Æ | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8679... | Go to resource |
