Description: | Wouwerman was the most successful seventeenth-century Dutch painter of horses, in his many small pictures depicting battle scenes, hunting scenes, army camps, smithies and stables. His silvery-grey landscapes, genre scenes and religious and mythological pictures show his versatility. He was also exceptionally productive. By the middle of the century his palette has become more colourful and his compositions more horizontal, reflecting his growing interest in landscape, as here. Perhaps the Preston work is therefore from this late period. | Subjects: | landscape | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Wouwerman, Philips (Dutch painter, 1619-1668) Æ Attributed to | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8682... | Go to resource |
