Description: | This painting is a typical example of the manner of painting used by Vincenzo Catena (about 1475-1531), an artist that took great inspiration from the style and subject matter of Giovanni Bellini and was less interested in the different techniques used by younger artists such as Titian. The painting shows a format known as a Sacra Conversazione, a visionary holy communion between the Virgin and Child and saints. Often the saints were name or patron saints of the patron. They could mediate between the central figures and the viewer, bringing him or her into conversation with Christ and his mother. | Subjects: | St Jerome); landscape (Italy) religion (Virgin St John the Baptist | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Catena, Vincenzo di Biagio (Italian painter, ca.1470-1531) Æ Attributed to manner of Previously attributed to Catena, Vincenzo di Biagio (Italian painter, ca.1470-1531) | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8689... | Go to resource |
