Description: | There is some debate about the artist responsible for this painting, but it has been suggested that it was a follower of the Italian painter Giulio Cesare Procaccini. The work is a depiction of an intimate moment experienced by the Holy Family. The Christ Child reaches out his arms to Mary and Joseph, who look at Him fondly; Mary's mother St Anne is also included in the left background. In keeping with tradition, Joseph is shown as an old man, of a similar age to Anne. | Subjects: | religion (Holy Family) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Procaccini, Giulio Cesare (Italian painter and draftsman, 1574-1625) Æ Attributed to circle of | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8719... | Go to resource |
