Description: | This work was previously known as Spanish School. However, the subject matter and strong chiaroscuro (extreme contrasts of light and dark) suggest it is more likely to be by a Neapolitan painter, perhaps in the circle of, or influenced by, Mattia Preti. The works depicts a close-up view of a wounded central figure wearing a crown, being attended to by a variety of figures, including one in armour, and another bearing oil or some kind of remedy. For further suggestions see notes. | Subjects: | religion; figure | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Italian (Neapolitan) School Æ Attributed to Previously attributed to Spanish School | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8751... | Go to resource |
